Session Notes:

The November 7 session marked the beginning of a new season for the club. With this new season, we'll be keeping a different set of statistics, maintaining the Club Rating system based on the NSA rating system as well as introducing a percentage of games won. With this season we will be archiving all club session results on our Web site (www.TucsonScrabble.com).

A coven of players attended last session. We had a new player join us. Jennifer Buchanan read Word Freak and decided that tournament Scrabble sounded right up her alley.  We hope to see more of her each week as she prepares to compete in the Tuscon December tournament. Welcome Jennifer! We also had John Hart visit us from Portland, Oregon. John will be with us for the next few weeks and will hopefully be in and out of town during the season.

Nobody played a Triple-Triple, and the pot for doing so now stands at $58.00 plus a quarter of the dues collected at he next session. The winner of the high game prize was Lewis Saul, who thoroughly trounced Josh with a 574 point game. The contest for the highest-scoring word that begins with UN went to Nathan Benedict for an 82 point play of UNDERPAID. Other notable UN words were:
- unwiped (phony) for 71 points by Brent Aronson
- UNITERS for 69 points by Karen Lundeen
- UNSOILED for 61 points by Naurlene Canterman

Notable plays included Naurlene Canterman starting her game against Bob Whitcomb by playing three bingos in a row. Lewis Saul had an interesting play of four tiles to form five words. Putting down REDE, he formed HER, DE, ED, and LEZ for 37 points. Bob Whitcomb proved that luck of the draw is just that: luck. With 5 Es remaining in the bag and ZINC on the board, he held AT hoping to play ZINCATE, which never happened. the next night he played a non-club game against Naurlene and again drew ZINCAT, after which Naurlene promptly blocked the only playable E.

Next week's session will include prizes for Triple-Triple plays and high game as well as a cash prize for the highest-scoring word that begins and ends with the same letter (e.g., GUESSING, SAINTS, YUMMY, CROC, REORDER, etc.). Good luck!
